So, what’s in a name? Your name encompasses so much. It symbolizes who your parents thought you would become and ultimately who you did become. Maybe you were named after someone special or an ancestor.

Sometimes a name needs to be grown into, I know I grew into mine! My mother was a very eccentric woman and she wanted my name to be so rare and special that I would be hard-pressed to find someone else who had it. My name was something that I had a love-hate relationship with, I celebrated that it was so rare here in Southern California but I also loathed how different it made me.

I would say it took me a full 20 years to grow into my name. School was rough and kids are cruel whenever something is too different. The name Hadasa is a biblical name, it’s also Hebrew, but I am Latina as you know. My name, what I look like, where I was from and what I sounded like never quite matched. As the years went on and I grew accustomed to my name and peoples compliments for it being so different and cool. I started to appreciate it and feel special!

I realized I would never be one of those people that can walk around on vacation and find a keychain with their name on it at the corner kiosk. Everything had to be custom! I’ve never had a custom piece made with my first name on it until recently.

ONecklace creates all of my custom pieces, but I had only ever gotten my last name done or my initials, or my kids birthdates. Some thing always held me back from putting my first name on anything, (even when I named my blog I couldn’t use my name for some reason).

This necklace is a celebration of my name, and my legacy! While it’s not something I have always appreciated, now I know that I am the only one who can carry my name the way that I do. Appreciating my individualism has taken years but it was worth the learning curve and struggles. No matter how old we are we continue to grow, change and aspire! Thank you oh necklace for allowing me to celebrate and appreciate my name! This is an amazing gift for anyone with a unique name, an amazing way to make them feel special! This blog post goes out to my fellow difficult name tribe! To anyone who’s ever thought about changing their name just to fit in or to make others comfortable, this one’s for you!
